Lovkart — Privacy & tester terms

Privacy & tester terms

Lovkart is an experimental research tool in a small private test (maximum 20 testers). This page explains, plainly, what we collect, why, and your rights. It is short on purpose.

What Lovkart serves in this test

During this test, Lovkart serves Norwegian public legal sources — published statutes (lover), central regulations (forskrifter) and preparatory works (forarbeider) — together with case metadata for Supreme Court decisions (court, date, designation, the citation graph, and the court's own case title). It does not serve the full text of court decisions. Serving decision text would involve the personal data of people named in those cases and requires a separate data-protection assessment (DPIA) and Datatilsynet approval, which is not yet in place. To read a decision's reasoning, follow its link to the source at domstol.no.

Who is responsible

The data controller for this test is lovkart.no. For any privacy question or request, contact post@lovkart.no.

What we collect

Why we process it, and the legal basis

We process this data on the basis of your consent, to operate the private test: to give you access, to contact you about the test, and to keep the service working and secure. You can withdraw consent at any time (see “Your rights”).

Contacting you about feedback and updates is separate and optional: we do it only if you have ticked that box (at registration or later on your dashboard), and you can untick it there at any time. Withdrawing this consent never affects your access.

Where it is stored, and who else sees it

Data is stored on Google Cloud in the European Union (europe-west1). Google acts as our processor. We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not share it with third parties beyond the infrastructure needed to run the test.

To run the test, the service operator can see the list of tester accounts — email, sign-in method, registration date, whether an access code exists, and your contact preference — never the access code itself. The operator can revoke or delete an account (for example after a leaked code or on your request). Every such administrative action is logged.

Lovkart never receives your conversation, only the search terms your AI tool chooses for the lookup. Only when the ordinary search of the law collection finds nothing are those search terms sent to Google's Vertex AI service in the EU to compute a semantic representation; Lovkart does not store them and they are not used for training.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and operational data for the duration of the test and delete it within 30 days of the test ending or of your request. Access codes do not expire during the test; you can rotate or revoke yours at any time from the dashboard.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or withdraw your consent — which ends your participation. Email post@lovkart.no and we will act on it. If you are in the EEA and are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to your data protection authority (in Norway, Datatilsynet).

Not legal advice

Lovkart is a research and navigation tool for Norwegian legal sources. It is not legal advice and is not a substitute for a qualified lawyer. Sources can be incomplete or out of date. Always verify against the official source before relying on anything.

This is a test

This is an experimental service offered without warranty. It may change, break, or be withdrawn, and data may be reset during the test. We will give testers reasonable notice before ending the test.

Changes

If we change this notice we will update this page and, for material changes, notify testers by email. Last updated: 2026-09-23.
